Ice Music Festival 2011

Ice Music Festival 2011 was a great success.

Perfect winter conditions and ice of very good quality with a warm sound set the terms for å perfect Ice Music Festival 2011.

This years crew which included the one and only ice carver Bill Covitz, our architect Helder Neves, project manager Ivar Haugstad and «the fixer» Niklas Sørensen where accompanied with a great number of volunteers from all over the world. Together they made a extraordinary and unique festival venue and stage. A stage that took us on a tour between ice, snow, musicians and audience where the ice music became a visual matter, expanding the human senses. Strongly inspired by Terje's performances, the stage became a living instrument that perpetuated the show. We are very happy to hear the most of them are coming back for 2012!

Terje Isungset is the inventor of ice music, and every year he invites friends and colleagues to his home town Geilo for the Ice Music Festival, and also this year there was a nice variety of different artistic expressions that melted together in the ice music. On the opening night the Aastad Bråten brothers from Valdres performed on the worlds first langeleik of ice together with a local children's choir and singer Solfrid N. Gjeldokk. The following days Terje performed with world leading improvisor Bram Stadhouders, Egyptian singer Fatma Zidan and the Norwegian singer Mari K. Brunvoll.

Ice Music Festival also had the privilege of being visited by several representatives from international media. Among others ABC News and BBC Radio 4. Here you can see, hear and read the result of their visit to the festival.

To summarize one can say that the Ice Music Festival was a great success, thanx to all the people involved. We are really looking forward to next years festival which will be arranged 3rd - 5th February 2012 at Geilo.
